How parliament works?

 Today we were learning about how parliament works.Then we had to answer some questions.

What is New Zealand’s head state called?

Queen Elizabeth ll.

How is the government formed?

The party with most votes will have to form an agreement with another party or parties.This means that the government can only be made up of ministers who are first elected members of the house of Representatives.

Why is our system of government also known as the westminster?

Westminster is also a part of london where the british parliament is located.

What is the house of Representatives?

It is all the MPP’s from all around New Zealand who come together and make decisions that affects our lives.

Who represents the sovereign of New Zealand?

Governor general.

What are the key functions of Parliament?

Make new laws and update old ones.

Where does the word Parliament come from?

It comes from  a french word called paler which means talk in french,but parliament means discussion but debate is more than discussion.

Why isn’t the sovereign allowed into the house of Representatives?

Because in the late 1600’s when charles the l was king he came into the house and attempted to arrest some of the members because they have offended him.

When were the first elections for maori members of parliament?

1868.
